Q: What is broomcasting?
A: Broomcasting is a method of casting in which melted metal is poured into a bundle of dampened broomcorn (or other similar plant straw). The metal then cools and forms in the negative spaces of the fiber, creating a distinct striated texture. No two pieces of broomcast metal are the same.
I am both a broomsquire (a maker of brooms) and a jeweler. Making broomcast jewelry allows me to work simultaneously with two materials that I love, to create jewelry for you to love as well.
