Cilices include hairshirts and chain cilice jewelry which have been traditionally used in both Catholic and Protestant traditions. You, of course, may use it for whatever you like.
Metal chain cilices have spikes on their interior which press closely against the skin. The pressure of the cilice is up to the user. Use discretion. Not intended for extended wear or to break the skin.
